Plants for sale are Colocasia "Nancyana" plants
Each plant I offer is Hybridized and grown from tissue cultures to be a disease free exact replica of the mother plant. Plants for sale are between 5-16" tall.
Nancyana is one of those rare introductions that immediately becomes the new industry standard. Introduced at the 2000 International Aroid Society meeting in Florida, this dazzling elephant ear became the most wanted plant at the meeting.
Emerging solid green, the 25" wide light green leaves begin turning butter cream-yellow along the center. The color then pours down into the main vein creating a huge bold Y-pattern in the center of the leaf. Color then bursts into the lateral (side) veins and begins its march to the margins.
Coloring starts in spring, shortly after the first leaves mature. It sends out lots of side stolons which will root into the soil where moisture is adequate. The more moisture the larger the plant will grow. Mature plant height 8' quite unique and very beautiful. We recommend using Bio Spectrum organic fertilizer located in our store. Ships to the continental United States only.
How to grow Colocasia Nancyana
Colocasia soil requirements and planting instructions
Mix together the following:
- 50 percent potting soil;
- 20 percent peat moss;
- 20 percent orchid bark with charcoal;
- 10 percent shredded sphagnum moss and a handful of perlite.
Place this mixture in a pots, beds or garden and plant your Colocasia. Proper site preparation ensures years of growth and once established they will not require weed control. Soil Ph should be around 5.6-7.0.
When making a site selection keep your plant in an area that has bright indirect light, but not direct sunlight.
Water and Fertilizer
If using drip irrigation allow soil to dry slightly between waterings. Do not over water any members of the Colocasia family. Add fertilizer to this heavy feeder every three weeks during the warmer months with a one half-strength fertilizer with a balanced N-P-K ratio or 20-20-20.
Pests and Disease
Pests or diseases are few and far between. When planting to avoid crown rot, stem rot and other fungal diseases keep your Colocasia fairly dry.
Colocasia are also referred to as Giant taro, Ape plant, Elephant Ear, Ape flower, Elephant’s Ear Plant, Night-scented Lily, New Guinea Shield, and Taro. Colocasia are generally grown from side shoots vs seeds. Plants will produce large fragrant flowers. There are hundreds of varieties of Colocasia.
