Plants for sale are Colocasia "Surf City" plants

    Each plant I offer is Hybridized and grown from tissue cultures to be a disease free exact replica of the mother plant. Plants for sale are between 5-16" tall. The vigorous growing tight clump is composed of 5' tall stalks that are purple toward the top, each holding a narrowly pointed, amazingly ruffled leaf.

    Each leaf is adorned with a small purple dot where the stem attaches to the leaf back. The narrow ruffled leaves add an entirely different texture in the garden. We recommend using Bio Spectrum organic fertilizer located in our store. Ships to the continental United States only.

Colocasia soil requirements and planting instructions

Mix together the following:

  • 50 percent potting soil;
  • 20 percent peat moss;
  • 20 percent orchid bark with charcoal;
  • 10 percent shredded sphagnum moss and a handful of perlite.

    Place this mixture in a pots, beds or garden and plant your Colocasia. Proper site preparation ensures years of growth and once established they will not require weed control. Soil Ph should be around 5.6-7.0.

Light conditions

    When making a site selection keep your plant in an area that has bright indirect light, but not direct sunlight.

Water and Fertilizer

    If using drip irrigation allow soil to dry slightly between waterings. Do not over water any members of the Colocasia family. Add fertilizer to this heavy feeder every three weeks during the warmer months with a one half-strength fertilizer with a balanced N-P-K ratio or 20-20-20.

Pests and Disease

    Pests or diseases are few and far between. When planting to avoid crown rot, stem rot and other fungal diseases keep your Colocasia fairly dry.
